Dalkia strives to conduct business in line with the principles of ethics and compliance
Dalkia joined the United Nations Global Compact in 2015, aligning with its 10 principles on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. In so doing, we committed to apply these principles and demonstrate tangible progress from one year to the next. We published our first Communication on Progress (COP) in 2016 and immediately qualified for the Advanced level. Everyone at Dalkia upholds the principles and fundamental rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, the Conventions of the International Labour Organisation, the OECD Guiding Principles, and the United Nations Convention against Corruption. Building on our 2003 ethical guidelines, we introduced our own code of ethics in 2016, in keeping with the values of the EDF Group: respect, solidarity and responsibility. We have introduced the code of ethics across all business units, backed by a network of liaison officers. In accordance with relevant regulations and the Sapin II law of 9 December 2016 on transparency, anti-corruption and modernisation in business, we have put in place a clear ethics & compliance policy along with a code of conduct. The latter is designed to protect our culture of integrity by helping employees identify any risks they may encounter in the course of their everyday activities and empower them to react appropriately. We have also released a simplified version of the code of conduct in the shape of a quick reference guide to help employees understand key issues.
An ethical charter built around the three values ??of the EDF group
In 2016, Dalkia introduced its Code of Ethics in keeping with the values of the EDF Group: respect, solidarity and responsibility. It set out the principles that should guide the actions and conduct of all Dalkia employees on a daily basis. We rolled out the Code across all business units, backed by a network of liaison officers.
In 2019, the EDF Group updated its own Ethics Charter to reflect the company's latest strategy and policy, along with changes in the regulatory environment. This Group Ethics Charter applies directly to Dalkia and now replaces our previous guidelines. The new EDF Group Ethics Charter aims to:
- reaffirm the Group's three core values (respect, solidarity and responsibility) to bring ethical requirements back to the heart of corporate responsibility, with an introductory sentence from the Chairman and CEO underlining his commitment;
- simplify requirements, by reducing them down to 12 to make them easier for all stakeholders to assimilate;
- avoid confusion between the Ethics Charter (focused on values shared within the workgroup) and the Code of Conduct (which sets out rules to be complied with and by which employees are bound because it is included in the internal regulations).
An ethical conduct and compliance code designed to protect our culture of integrity
The French law of 9 December 2016 on transparency, anti-corruption and economic modernisation (known as the Sapin II law) strengthens the legislative arsenal aimed at preventing and suppressing corruption and crimes of dishonesty, helping align France and French businesses with international anti-corruption standards.
Dalkia Group is firmly committed to ethical conduct and is fully compliant with the Sapin II law, as evidenced by the publication of its code of conduct. The code is designed to protect our culture of integrity by helping employees identify any risks they may encounter in the course of their everyday activities and empower them to react appropriately.? It forms part of company policy and is the cornerstone of Dalkia Group’s anti-corruption strategy.
Ethics & compliance whistleblowing system
In accordance with the Sapin II law of 9 December 2016 on transparency, anti-corruption and modernisation in business and the "Duty of Care" law of 27 March 2017 relating to the vigilance required of parent companies and instructing companies, the EDF Group implemented an ethics & compliance whistleblowing system to effectively deal with any potential issues. This system enables both internal employees and external employees (temporary staff, employees of a service provider, etc.) or casual employees (fixed-term contracts, apprentices, trainees, etc.) of any EDF Group entity as well as third parties to report an issue.
